[Background]
NoMaDoS had the opportunity to be involved in the interior renovation design of a pharmacy commissioned by Lively Co., Ltd. The pharmacy is located in a commercial building right in front of Kitakami Station—a stop on the Shinkansen line. The building houses several clinics and medical facilities, with this pharmacy being one of the newest tenants.
As the first pharmacy situated at the station front, we aimed to create a symbolic and distinctive space that could serve as a “gateway presence” for the area. Positioned at the intersection between the station and the building interior, the pharmacy features two entrances—one facing the station, the other facing inward toward the facility.
Our design approach was inspired by the image of “intertwining ripples,” connecting these two entrances with a fluid circulation line. The curved walls enhance this concept, expressing the idea of gentle ripples expanding outward from the pharmacy into the surrounding environment.
[Hightlight]
Rounded walls create a soft, inviting atmosphere and evoke the visual impression of ripples on water
Gently curved hanging partitions subtly define pathways, waiting areas, and the dispensary, ensuring a clear and user-friendly layout
A smooth circulation route connects both entrances, accommodating users approaching from different directions
A semi-open prescription counter balances privacy and comfort, offering a sense of safety and openness
