NoMaDoS

一級建築士事務所

【Background】

Kawatoku is the only long-established department store located in Morioka City, Japan.

Parallel to the main store of Kawatoku, on the basement of building Cube II, there is an office named “Toast” that serves the young creators and engineers mostly.

Homesick Design is in charge of running Toast; it is a design company located in Morioka. The concept of this office is ‘overwhelming communication’; it is encased in a polycarbonate ‘shell/thin skin’ that defines the working space and the area open to an average client.Homesick Design and NoMaDoS are also tenants in this office Too.In this manner, an ‘emotional tie’ with the exterior environment of an office is created practically by having constant interactions and therefore it shapes itself as an opportunity for individuals residing there to work and communicate collectively.

Furthermore, on the same floor, there is the communication base of “Morioka Star” BASE STATION where various information is assembled and where a cooperation between government and citizens is encouraged; and the Cyg art gallery designed and supervised by NoMaDoS.

Hoping to introduce concepts of “Curved’ walls in Cyg art gallery, which can be integrated in daily life through working cultures and discussions, instead of having them encased in different partitions or divisions.

【Highlight】

  • The use of transparent panels is carefully balanced, allowing for the presence of individuals while preventing the visibility of content on computer screens.

  • Feel free to get lost in the workflow design of this shared office.

  • For residents who are creators, they have the flexibility to customize their space according to their needs, such as adding shelves, and wooden partitions are used as dividers.
